While cruise lines are having their share of problems with rising fuel costs, they’re now also feeling the effect of the airlines’ rising fuel costs.

As airlines reduce the number of flights they offer, it’s getting increasingly difficult for cruise lines to get passengers to the ships in a timely fashion. Consider that about one third of all flights offered can’t be used by cruise line passengers as they wouldn’t arrive at the port on time.

More and more passengers will be required to fly a day early and overnight in a hotel at their own expense. Once they make it to the ship they’ll face another oil-based surcharge and that’s the cruise lines’ extra charge to account for increased fuel costs.

It’s clear that oil is not only making your daily life more expensive but it’s now also effecting your vacation. Let’s hope we’ll soon come up with viable alternative energy options.
